The DJ will show up usually 1-1.5 hours before the start of your event and setup all the speakers, effects lighting, smoke machines and anything else you may want. At the end of the night the DJ will take down everything.

It's not easy to hire a DJ, you need to make sure that the DJ understands exactly what type of music you want, what genre and the mood you wan't to create. That's why with most events the DJ will visit you for a pre-event consultation where you can go over the whole event and select music (if you like).
